Friday Five

Happy Friday! I’ve currently got my nose stuck in a book and it was really hard to break away to get a post together, so I figured why not share some of the my favorite books that I’ve read recently?!

– one – Some Girls: My Life in a Harem

This is the book I’m currently reading. It’s supposedly a true story about a girl from the U.S. that finds herself in a harem in Brunei. It’s really intriguing! I read through about half of it in about 2 hours, so it’s a pretty easy read but hard to put down!

– two – Orphan Train: A Novel

Mixing fiction with history, this book is written from the perspective of two different women: one is an elderly widow and the other is a teenager. They’re both orphans but have very different experiences because of the system. The teenager is in foster care, whereas the elderly woman was put on an “orphan train” that went from the East Coast to West and would make periodic stops along the way.  At the stops, people would wait to see the orphans and decide whether to adopt one or two. The problem was, there were no “background checks” or any sort of system to make sure the people adopting the children would take care of them. It took me a couple of chapters to get in to, but once I did, I couldn’t stop!

– three – Big Girl Panties: A Novel

This falls under the category of “beach reads” in my opinion. Nothing spectacular to the story, but if you’re looking for an easy (and I’ll be honest — a little bit trashy) book to take on vacation or read by the pool, this is the one for you!

– four – We Were Liars

Not an ending I was expecting at all! This book keeps you guessing the whole time! Not a happy-go-lucky one though but if you liked Gone Girl, this would be a good one to read.

– five – If I Stay and Where She Went

Yes, I know that’s technically two books, but they’re a series so I figure it counts as one. Anyway, just keep a box of tissues nearby, especially for If I Stay. Where She Went picks up a few years after where If I Stay lets off. Both are page-turners, so go ahead and set aside some time for yourself because you won’t want to put them down.

What are some good books you’ve read recently? I’m always looking for recommendations!
