Hello friends! I want to say “Happy Friday!” but I’m not in the best of moods… I was supposed to have today off work but alas, that isn’t happening. Oh well, I just have to remind myself to be thankful to have a job to go to!
Anywho, on to the fun (and very random) part! These definitely put me in a better mood!
one | This perfectly sums up the weather here this week. Saturday and Sunday were in the 60s, and then Tuesday we had snow and the entire city shut down
two | Did you watch the Oscars on Sunday night? There were so many great speeches! Loved Patricia Arquette’s in particular. #girlpower
RT if you clearly underestimated how long the #Oscars would last and did not buy enough wine.
I loved this dress! It is definitely something I would gravitate towards if I was out shopping in a store. It just didn’t fit me quite right. I have a really short torso and the waist band hit me at an odd spot. It needed to either be an inch higher or an inch lower. I really wanted to keep it, but I couldn’t justify spending $78 on it if it wasn’t perfect.
Skies are Blue Ortega Open Knit Perforated Cardigan | Medium — $48
I’ll be honest, when I first saw this cardigan in the box, I did not like it. It’s a much brighter color than I tend to like, and especially with my (new) red hair, I wasn’t sure how it would look. However once I got it on, I was pleasantly surprised to see how much I liked it! It was so soft and warm! However I can rarely justify keeping more than one item unless I am keeping the whole box, and I knew I wouldn’t be this time, so it went back. I’m really regretting that decision now.
Bancroft Cambridge Metal Cuff Bracelet — $28
This was a cute bracelet, but other than my Alex + Ani bracelets, I really don’t wear bracelets. Plus, it just wasn’t exactly “me” so I sent it back.
Just Black Dean Ankle Zip Skinny Jean | Size 8 — $78
I had actually recieved these in my last box (which I forgot to do a review for) but they were too small, so I sent them back. I had liked the style though, especially the zipper at the ankle, so they sent me another size to try in this box. Fortunately for me (and unfortunately for them), I’ve lost some more weight in the last month, so these were too big. So yep, they went back… again…
Ezra Rowlett Lace Detail Sweatshirt | Medium — $54
Before you think that this box was a total bust, I did keep this top! A grey sweatshirt that is still cute?! Of course I kept it! I love love love it! Now if it could just warm up above 40 degrees so I can wear it!
If you are interested in trying Stitchfix, I would love it if you used my referral link! This post is in no way a sponsored post as Stitchfix has no idea who I am other than a customer, but if you use my referral link I get a $25 credit on my next box!
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted anything related to being gluten-free. I’ve been following a GF diet for about 8 months now, and still every day I feel like I’m finding yet another item that has gluten in it. The tendency is to think gluten is contained only to items such as bread and pasta, but it’s in so many other things, including non-food items! So I thought I’d share a couple of the things I’ve learned in hope that it will help you in your GF journey.
Once I say the word “beer”, most people are like “Oh yeah! Of course!” since it is made from wheat. But it’s not one of those items you automatically think to avoid. For me, this wasn’t a big deal because I rarely drank beer as I didn’t like the taste. But for those of you that do love it, there are some GF beers like OMission. I personally love hard cider so that’s what I tend to drink if I am wanting something similar-ish to beer.
The hardest thing for me is that beer is used for cooking/flavoring things (think Beer Cheese Soup, Beer Chicken, etc.), and I really loved those types of things. If I’m cooking with a recipe that calls for it, I usually just replace it with hard cider. But oh do I miss beer cheese soup…
Yep, soy sauce has wheat in it. And just like beer, when you think about not dipping your sushi in soy sauce, that seems pretty easy to avoid. Thankfully, there is such a thing as gluten-free soy sauce and I personally can’t taste much of a difference. Some people use Liquid Aminos instead of the GF soy sauce, but I don’t particularly care for the taste.
The biggest thing is to make sure something hasn’t been cooked in soy sauce (which that is definitely a hard one to avoid! Soy sauce is things like barbecue sauce, steak marinade, etc.) so you have to be careful about that.
This one was very upsetting for me. I LOVE malt vinegar on my french fries. But unfortunately, it’s also processed with wheat, so no more malt vinegar.I haven’t found a GF substitute yet so if you know of one, please share!
Makeup & Skincare Products
Yep, that’s right. Some makeup and skincare products contain gluten. This is one of the most recent things I’ve discovered, so I am trying to learn how to read the labels to know what words to look for. Now, I know that if you aren’t gluten-intolerant or Celiac, this may not be a big deal to you, but if you are, it could be an area you are missing. I did find out that Tarte Cosmetics formulates all of the their products without gluten so I have been slowly switching to them as my current products have run out (so far I’m using their Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara and their blush, both of which I love).
If you are cutting out gluten, what things have you found it secretly hidden in? I’m still learning so please share! I need all the help I can get!
